Hello Readers, since last few days I have been talking a lot about this “Kohinoor Brown Basmati Rice” that I have bought and made two rice dishes using the same namely Tamarind Brown Rice and Soya Chikka Biryani (Click on the name for recipe), so in todays post I will be writing my reviews and experience on this “Kohinoor Brown Basmati Rice”, hope this will be helpful for you.
COMPANY CLAIMS:-
- Cooks in 15 Mins.
- Low GI Value, No Cholesterol, High in Fiber and Rich In Vitamins & Minerals.
PACKING of the product :-
I bought 1 kg pack and it comes in a plastic container as shown in the pic, when you open the lid its sealed to keep the content airtight.
COST:-
Rs. 160 for 1 kg.
SHELF LIFE:-
12 Months.
AVAILABILITY:-
Available across India, in most of the super markets and even the small grocery stores, I bought mine from a small departmental store within the complex.
INGREDIENTS:-
Long grain Brown Basmati Rice
METHOD:-
- Soak 1 cup rice for 2 hours.
- Boil 3 1/2 cups of water, add salt as per taste, and let it boil.
- After a boil, add the soaked rice and cook for 5-7 mins.
- Check by breaking the rice with hands, if its soft, then switch off the flame.
- Strain the rice in a strainer and its ready to serve.
MOMENT OF TRUTH:-
As mentioned above that I have used this in making Tamarind Brown Rice and Soya Chikka Biryani (click on the name for the recipe) apart form that I have started using the same as a part of my daily meals instead of normal rice.
PROS:-
- Fulfills the company claim, yes the rice is vey easy and quick to cook.
- Comes in a very handy plastic container which is easy to store and the contents need not be transferred in any other container.
- Wide availability.
- Tastes much better and creamier than the normal rice.
- Totally non-sticky, even if you make the rice without boiling in excess water.
- Retains shape and doesn’t break if handled with light hands.
- Color becomes light after cooking so looks attractive as the normal rice.
- Has a great shelf life of 1 year.
CONS:-
- Company claims of Low GI Value, No Cholesterol, High in Fiber and Rich In Vitamins & Minerals, but that is available in the brown rice form all the brands so, nothing very great to offer.
- Rs. 160 for a kg is yes, high on the pocket as well as higher than what is offered by other brands in the market.
- While washing the rice before soaking it, water became a little brownish, maybe the rice has colour.
CONCLUSION:-
I have cooked this rice a number of times now and every time the result has been fantastic, I will definitely buy this product again, but would also love to try the other brands as well to know where it stands in the peers in comparison of price and quality.
HC RATINGS:-
I will give this product 4/5 as I found it a little over priced.

Hi Neetu.. I was wondering if its good for bulking up. I wanted to bulk up the right way.(as against to dirty bulking up using white rice). Please let me know your thoughts on this aspect.
ReplyDeleteHi, I guess by bulking up you mean storing rice in bulk, if yes then definitely you can do it. :)
